There are so many Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHA) flying around in space that it resembles one of my early attempts with a Spirograph. If I find a 3-space model, I will share it.
Hazardous means roughly 560 feet across, among other things. City killers. These 1400+ don’t bother me. It’s the millions we haven’t seen yet that can impact within a day or two.
THERE ARE A MILLION ASTEROIDS IN SPACE BIG ENOUGH TO DESTROY A CITY, AND SCIENTISTS ONLY KNOW WHERE ONE PERCENT OF THEM ARE –“ 60 MINUTES” SUNDAY
Case in point, a Volkswagon sized asteroid, now named 2014 AA hit the Atlantic off of South America last week. No witnesses, but it set off seismometers which can detect nuclear explosions. They knew it was coming, as of 23 hours beforehand.
The image is from the Ministry of Space Exploration. AMAZING deep sky imagery. I added the site to my Astronomy / Night Skies page on the menu.
